Colorado Has Four Seasons. Here's Why Each One Is Worth the Trip.

Most people book Colorado once and say they'll come back. The ones who actually do come back tend to come back every season, because the place is genuinely different each time. Same mountains, same roads, same front porch on the cabin — but a completely different reason to be there.

Winter (December – March)

This is the obvious one. Skiing at Breckenridge, Keystone, and Arapahoe Basin, plus smaller hills without the lift-line crowds. But even if you don't ski, winter in the Colorado mountains has its own rhythm. The towns quiet down mid-week, the hot tub earns its keep, and a snowstorm that would ruin a city trip just makes the cabin feel more like the right place to be. Elk move down into the valleys. The stars are clearer than you'd expect.

Spring (April – June)

Spring is the underrated season. Snow is still on the peaks through May, but the lower trails open up, the rivers run fast with snowmelt, and the crowds haven't arrived yet. Rates are lower. You can hike in the morning and sit by a fire at night. Wildflowers start showing up in the meadows by late May, and by June the whole landscape looks freshly painted.

Summer (July – August)

Warm days, cool nights, afternoon thunderstorms that roll in around three and clear out by five. Rocky Mountain National Park is at its most accessible. Estes Park fills up, but get out early and you'll have the trails mostly to yourself. The long evenings are good for sitting outside with a drink and watching the light change on the peaks.

Fall (September – October)

Fall might be the best season of all. The aspen groves turn gold in late September and the color lasts about three weeks — long enough to plan around if you book early. The elk rut runs through October, and near Estes Park you'll hear the bulls bugling at dawn. The air is sharp, the light is low and golden all day, and the summer crowds are gone. It's the season that turns first-time visitors into people who come back every year.

Whichever season brings you out, we'll make sure the cabin is ready. Our Alma mountain cabin is a good base for winter and fall, and the Breckenridge cabin puts you ten minutes from the slopes. Browse the full collection and check availability for your dates.
